Hot Meals Service

This new service is typical of the much loved ‘meals on wheels’ service that many local authorities and voluntary organisations operated in the 1970s and 1980s.

The service is operated by ICare Cuisine Ltd who are a leading provider of health and social care in the UK.

Who is the service for?

This service is for service users who currently receive a home care visit at lunchtime that have been assessed as requiring a meal service.

Service users will have been assessed as eligible for homecare by meeting Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) eligibility criteria and referred by a Cordia or HSCP member of staff as requiring a hot meal service.

If you are interested in discussing this with a Cordia assessor please contact 0141 353 9292

About the meals

Good nutrition is important to all of us no matter what age or time of life we are at. It can enhance our quality of life. All meals provided by ICare meet strict nutritional criteria issued by the National Association of Care Catering (NACC).

ICare caters for a whole range of special diets. As well as this they can also provide culturally sensitive meal options.
Special diets include those that include:

·         Lower fat
·         Moderate salt
·         Soft foods
·         Gluten free food items
·         Vegetarian food items
·         Ethnic ingredients

How does the service work?

Before the service starts, an ICare community assistant will arrange to visit. Service users can choose to have a family member, neighbour or friend present at this visit. During the visit the community assistant will let the service user try out a sample complimentary meal.

They will then take order choices for a four week rolling period. Each meal is made up of a main course and a sweet.
Meals will be delivered hot, between 11am and 2pm on the days booked. The community assistant delivering the meals will serve it to you using the service users own plates and cutlery and also give them a cold drink.

They will ensure they are fine and report back to Cordia home care if they feel the service user is unwell or has issues that concern them during their visit.
